2022.01.26 20:40 fluffyice34 how to handle abrupt disconnects with the net module?
Hello all Im making my first simple fullstack app and im at a dead end (because it seems no one really uses the net module, id use socket io but I want to learn with the tools ive been given first).
Its a simple TCP chat program. The server side is what runs the node js code and the client is a c++ terminal (using the terminal template because i was lazy). Right now what I have is: The client asks for a username, and then the client connects to the server using winsock2, then the program just kind of loops until I hit the x button on the terminal.
All works well on both ends but if I end the terminals life using task manager the console spits out Error: read ECONNRESET, which is what I'd assume would happen in the case the users pc shuts off or they lose wifi
how do I catch this error?
Ive been trying to find the answer but the best I could find is enable the keepalive method in the socket and set a timeout but the timeout function never gets called after the error message and if its not in the error function it gets called automatically. Even if timeout was called I still have no idea how to test if the socket is still connected

2022.01.26 20:40 whosthatgirl159 Earbuds for small ears
A lot of people here recommend the earfun free pro 2 for small ears, BUT I like to have the option to turn off the 1 tap control because when I workout I accidentally rub my earbuds and it might activate the control (this happened to me when I tried my boyfriend's Liberty Air 2s, but with that one you can turn the 1 tap off).
The Soundcore liberty air 2s actually fit me really well, but I think they lack some of the features I would like to have, such as ANC and automatic pause when you remove the buds from your ear.
I've tried both the 1more comfobuds and the Soundcore Liberty Air Pro 2 and they're both a bit big. They both fit my ears and provide good seal (and don't fall off), but they just hurt after a while (and I wear them pretty much all day, so it being uncomfortable is not good).
My budget is under $100. If anyone can recommend me something, please do!

2022.01.26 20:40 Brian_Barron Music as non-representational art
My name is Brian Barron, I'm a folk singer from Wicklow, Ireland. During Jordans lengthly discussion with Joe that aired yesterday he touched upon music, the Ramones, patterns, layering and something I would like to address...music being non-representational. I'll write this off the top of my head and hopefully will be able to convey some meaning.
Not all music has lyrics of course but the reason someone like Cohen, Cash or even the Ramones are transcendental is because they have the ability to wrap up hard vicious truth in combination with distinctive rhythmic patterns. Not all music is dance, Jordan would have noticed this at Cohen's concert. It is a reverential atmosphere akin to church. The words paint pictures in one's mind and not the same images in each audience member. Especially when we are talking about couplets dressed in allegory or metaphor.
The highest form of music is ancient undeniable truth, archetypal in nature with the bedrock and structure of hundreds of years of tradition. The living, breathing, pulsating embodiment of the centerpoint of the cross... the logos. We experience it subjectively but if it's brave, forthright and honest... it becomes objectively true in the purest sense.
The best musicians are akin to the most ambitious painters. Take Picasso, who in his Las Meninas series, took the Velázquez painting and composed 56 representations and reinterpretations from the original image. A sculpture is set in literally stone, a painting static, a song can change key, tempo, phrasing, intonation and thus meaning from one concert or studio session to the next. It is fluid and alive while being sung. It never hangs in a gallery or an collectors stairway balcony.
Music is also mathematical in nature. He is correct in talking about layers, but it is often the space in between the notes that is most important. That which creates the pull and tug between the instruments. If everybody in the band plays the same thing at the same time at the same volume it's just noise. The drums and bass lock everything into the structure, other elements move to create tension and release.
I'll give an example of the depth of representation in a single couplet. Recently I listened to Oliver Stone's conversation and decided to watch both JFK revisited and one which I'd previously avoided, Wall Street. My rational for that was due to the false illusion is was an ode to the excess of greed and speculative investors. Boy was I wrong... In one particularly poignant scene the brilliant Martin Sheen utters the line "money's just something you need if you don't die tomorrow" This supposed blue collar working stiff has about five or six of these golden nuggets of wisdom which fly right over Charlie's head.
That line jumped right out at me and immediately I was consciously running through rhymes and partial rhymes for tomorrow. This line in the dialogue sits on the borderline between chaos and order. Life is a balancing act, artists are tightrope walkers. Sheen's character represents the hard working father, the honest day's work. He doesn't suffer fools gladly and he's dialled in and tuned to totality of life. You need money for food and shelter, but you might die at any moment, so don't only focus on the accumulation of material.... but beware of throwing all caution to the wind also.
Tomorrow/arrow/borrow/fellow/follow/gallow/hello/hollow/sorrow. Plenty to choose from. The subconscious domain is instinctively knowing what both parallels the first line thematically but also expands upon. I settled upon....
"Money's just something you need if you don't die tomorrow, ain't nothing more tragic than a rich man's sorrow"
A billionaire's loved one might be diagnosed with an inoperable terminal illness and in that moment, all the gold in Fort knox wouldn't alter the inevitable.
So in one couplet we have the archetypal fatheteacheGod/knowledge/truth and the punchline of stark reality. In Blues one often repeats the first line for hook and the second is the line and sinker. I humed this to the old Carter Family song "Worried Man's Blues", a melody which is at least a century old. Most likely crossing from Ireland or Scotland.
So in conclusion, a couple of lines can illuminate the dark path going forward as clearly as other forms and contain within itself a world of representation.
Kind regards Brian
If anyone would like to listen to my first album, its available below. 'Century Of The Self' is my attempt to reflect the world back upon itself... like a mirror.
